One Note Many ColorsAs guitar players we like to learn chord shapes and scale patterns. Of course this is an important process in learning the guitar, but many players find they cannot draw on these scale patterns when it's time to improvise a solo. The reason for this difficulty is in hearing the color of the notes over the chord changes. the following exercise will help you recognize how one note will sound completely different over 12 different chords. It is important to memorize and visualize, but to improvise you need to hear what you want to play at that moment. Compare it to having a conversation, you don't think about spelling or sentence structure - it just happens naturally.
